I’m going to be honest with you — running is not everyone’s idea of a good time.
For some people, it’s joy, endorphins, matching activewear sets.
For others… it’s “why am I voluntarily doing this?” Real talk, I am not a runner, if I’m runny, you had better run too, something is chasing me! (I actually considered creating a non-run fundraiser, asking people to donate INSTEAD of running but apparently that is ‘not in the spirit of things’…who knew?)
And yet, every year, thousands of people show up for HBF Run for a Reason — not just for the run, but for what it actually means.
And this year, we’d really love you to be part of it with us at Women’s Health and Wellbeing Services.
Why This One Matters
At WHWS, we see every day what happens when women are given the right support at the right time.
It’s not just “feeling a bit better.”
It’s:
- a mum finally having space to breathe
- a woman starting to feel like herself again
- families communicating in ways they never have before
- cycles being interrupted (the big, generational ones)
That kind of change doesn’t happen in isolation — it happens because someone had access to support, guidance, and a space where they felt safe enough to show up as they are.
That’s what we do. And it matters.
So Where Does the Running Come In?
This is where you come in.
HBF Run for a Reason is one of those rare events where doing something good for yourself (or let’s be honest, attempting to do something good for yourself) also does something genuinely meaningful for someone else.
Every step, every slightly dramatic “why did I sign up for this” moment, every dollar raised — it all contributes to:
- counselling and mental health support for women and children
- parenting and family programs that actually strengthen relationships
- education and life skills that build confidence and resilience
- making sure these services are accessible to the people who need them most
So yes, it’s a run. But it’s also so much more than that.
How You Can Be Part of It (No Elite Fitness Required)
Run (or walk… or jog… or enthusiastic stroll – heck, I’d take and UNenthusiastic stroll
)
Join us on Sunday 24 May 2026. Pick a distance that feels achievable — whether that’s a family walk or something a bit more ambitious. No pressure, no perfection.
Fundraise
Set up a page, share it around, and let people support something that actually makes a difference. You’d be surprised how many people want to help — they just need to be asked.
Donate or share
Not a runner? Same. You can still be part of this by donating or spreading the word. It all counts.
What Your Support Actually Does
This is the part that matters most.
Your involvement helps us reach women and families who might otherwise miss out on support entirely.
It helps us create spaces where women can say, “I’m not okay” — and be met with care, not judgement.
It helps build confidence, connection, and change that ripples out into families, communities, and future generations.
That’s not small. That’s everything.
Final Thought (Before You Talk Yourself Out of It)
You don’t have to be fast.
You don’t have to be fit.
You don’t even have to like running.
You just have to be willing to show up.
Because when you do, you’re not just ticking off a fun run — you’re helping create stronger, healthier communities for women and families who really need it.
So… come run. Or walk. Or shuffle.
We’ll be cheering you on either way.
