Foodie Fridays – Edition 2

Picnic spread with friends

Welcome to the second edition of Foodie Fridays.

Dining Out

I have 2 new dining experiences to share with you this edition:

Bahn Mee

This is a casual Vietnamese restaurant located in Leederville, run by Jenny Lam from the last season of Masterchef. Not only is this one of the prettiest restaurants with its multi-coloured lanterns adorning the ceiling, the Beef Pho is delicious. This restaurant is small – and I mean tiny, so I would recommend getting there early or booking a table, so you don’t miss out.

Endeavour Tavern – Lancelin

Today’s other restaurant review comes from a recent weekend away in Lancelin. When the slogan is “Best beer garden in Australia” this place had a lot to live up to – and it did not disappoint. Pull up a table here in the sunny beer garden, and watch the ocean while enjoying some great fresh seafood and a cold drink. The Fish and Chips was definitely a stand out – fresh local snapper in a light crispy batter. Get here early to get one of the ocean front tables, or stay late and watch one of the famous Indian Ocean Sunsets.

Eating in

You might recall last issue I mentioned a recipe I was going to try for slashed lamb. It turned out delicious, and I can highly recommend this for your next Sunday Roast.

As the weather gets cooler, I find myself cooking lots of soups. This one was a Spiced Potato and Lentil Soup with lots of chilli, cumin and coriander and topped with Greek yoghurt and lemon. Nice and spicy for a chilly night.

I’m always looking to expand my soup recipes – what are your favourite soups to cook in Winter? – send us through your favourite recipes!

Fun Foodie Fact

The reason why chillies taste hot is because of a chemical compound called capsaicin, which bonds to your sensory nerves and tricks them into thinking your mouth is actually being burned.
